Di’s Glass Bead
When a friend presented me with a beautiful glass bead she had created, I took on the challenge of designing a painting with a difference. When the bead was photographed in bright sunshine, so many different shapes and colours showed through. I used a combination of edited photographs to sketch design ideas for the painting. My first attempt was a watercolour. Due to the complexity of the colours, I began another painting using oil colours, which I found more suitable for the design I had chosen. The end result is an eye-catching, colourful painting and I’m very pleased that Di loves it so much!
Portrait of Roy
Wish you were here, Dad…….
Time for a challenge….
I have a wonderful photo of my Dad, Roy, which I thought I’d use to create a portrait. Sadly, Dad died a few years ago. He was such a vibrant and inspirational person who told many a good story, often with lots of humour thrown in for good measure. Dad wouldn’t have to be asked twice to perform on stage to sing or to recite poetry by his favourite poet, Banjo Paterson.
I’ve spent many hours working on the portrait. It’s the first time I’ve attempted one and it’s proving to be quite a challenge, especially mixing the colours for the skin tones. I only wish Dad was sitting in front of me. I’m not sure, but I think it might be easier to paint him if he was right there. Also, he’d have lots of amusing comments to make along the way! This is my very first portrait and I thought I’d have it finished in no time. Not so, but will keep going and hope some of my Dad’s wonderful character shows through in the end. He would have told me to never give up and to always go one step further than everyone else………. he did!
We can always dream……
As a child, I loved to visit an Uncle who lived in the bush. His small wooden hut had a dirt floor, which he carefully swept every morning with a straw broom.
It didn’t look like dirt, as it had become so compacted over the years.
This painting reminds me of a past era and a quieter life in the Australian bush.
It would be the perfect place for a peaceful getaway.

Let’s add some colour…..
Where do I start?
Hi, This is my first chat and I find myself short on words! It’s very exciting to have my very own space on the WWW. Of course I needed a bit of help, but here I am putting it all together, like a jigsaw puzzle. The WWW is a big space and as I am now part of it, I’m planning to showcase some of my unique and colourful artwork.
Hope you enjoy it!!
